Frogman Show 2010

2010 May Festival of the Arts

ZARKS’ EVENT SCHEDULE

SATURDAY, MAY 1, 2010

TIM COTTERILL, THE FROGMAN, was at Zarks tonight as was an enthusiastic group of his loyal fans.

The Frogman made his first appearance of the day in the Artrageous Parade. Dressed in a vivid purple suit and riding in a bright red Mustang convertible adorned with green balloons, Tim waved to the crowd and tossed frog trinkets, green candy, and the biggest hit of all, frog beach balls!

The gallery reception began at 6:00 P.M. and the place stayed full and busy all evening. Tim visited with his collectors, made new friends, signed frogs and, as is his way, thoroughly  charmed and  entertained the crowds.

The gallery introduced “BUTCH,” its 2010 show frog. This piece has been produced in a limited edition of only 150 exclusively for and available only at Zarks. Also available was Tim’s new releases and currently available works along with some coveted sold out pieces for the fans to add to their collections.

There was an email and in-gallery silent auction for 8 sold out, retired, or hard to find frogs. Drawings were held for a Twister, one of the “jewels” of the Gem Collection, and for two copies of Tim’s sold out book plus Tim added a couple of surprises, a sterling silver frog charm and a bronze Beware of Frogs plaque.

We  had a great time and it was a wonderful kickoff for the month-long festival.

SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2010

Zarks held its 12th Annual Invitational Group Theme Show Saturday, May 8th. Over 20 local and area artists rendered their unique interpretations of the this year’s theme, “WIDGETS, GIZMOS & DOOHICKIES”

Entries included such oddities as a zippered fur-lined coconut, a “Rube Goldberg” style bank, a gear activated polar bear ballerina, and a rotating music box using magnets to demonstrate chaos theory accompanied by Beethoven’s 5th – well, you just had to be there.

The winner of the People’s Choice Award and a $100 gift certificate was “OZARK SHIVER BUG a/k/a HENRY”  created JUDY-LEE CARPENTER. The artist used, among other things, forks, spoons, glass beads, and a battery operated motor that made the bug “dance.”

Photos of the pieces will soon be available on the gallery’s website.

SATURDAY, MAY 15, 2010

The following Saturday, May 15th, Zarks Gallery’s will feature a Trunk Show, “CONTEMPORARY ARTIFACTS,” by Eureka Springs jeweler, MICHAEL SCHWADE. Michael’s distinctive designs are both contemporary  and classical, having the appearance of adornments that could have just as easily been created in ancient times rather than today. A reception will be held that evening from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M

SATURDAY, MAY 22, 2010

ROLLIN KARG will be Zarks’ feature artist with his show “,HOT GLASS & COLD STEEL,” on Saturday, May 22. Karg is a renowned glass artisan from the Midwest who designs and creates small and massive sculptural pieces from molten glass, usually shaped in a freeform, asymmetrical manner. He brings the glass to life through his dynamic use of color, especially dichroic colors, a material that transmits one color while reflecting another, and adds a unique dimension to the piece. A reception will be held that evening from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M
